Spray Tan FAQ: Preparation, Rinse Times and How Long It Lasts
The questions I am asked most: how a spray tan works, how to prepare, when to rinse and how long it lasts.

Most of what I am asked in a day comes down to the same dozen questions, arriving in roughly the same order: how long does it take, how dark will it be, when can I shower. Here they are in one place, answered the way I would answer them in the studio.
The basics
How does a spray tan work?
Every solution has two parts. The cosmetic bronzer is a guide color that washes off in your first rinse, and the DHA is the real tan, reacting with amino acids in the outermost layer of your skin and developing over about 24 hours. No UV is involved at any point.
How long does the appointment take?
About 20 minutes for a typical full-body tan, and sometimes longer. deSoleil is appointment-only, which also gives you time to prepare your skin beforehand.
Will it look unnatural?
A tan looks unnatural when the formula does not suit the skin or the application is not measured, and both come down to judgment. I choose the formula and depth for your undertone and the look you want, and you can switch formulas at the appointment if you change your mind. The formulas and prices are all on the services page.
Preparing
How should I prepare?
Use a gentle exfoliating glove in the shower every day, including the day of your appointment, drink plenty of water, moisturize regularly, wear sunscreen and avoid tan lines. Arrive with clean, dry skin and no lotion, oil or deodorant. Preparation is advice, not a condition of booking, though skipping it can affect your result. The full version is in How to prepare for a spray tan.
What should I wear?
Bring loose, dark clothing to wear home, because the bronzer can transfer onto fabric and tight straps rub against a fresh tan.

Rinsing and aftercare
When do I rinse?
Rapid Development and Unity NR: 2, 4 or 6 hours, depending on how deep you want your color.
Bronze Organics, Classic Bronze and Ultra Dark: 8 to 12 hours.
I give you your exact time at your appointment, the first rinse is water only, and every formula keeps developing for about 24 hours afterward.
How long does a spray tan last?
Usually 7 to 14 days, depending on your preparation, your aftercare and how active you are. Daily moisturizing is what makes the fade gradual and even, and the aftercare guide covers the rest.
Can I swim, exercise or use a sauna?
Heat from a sauna, a steam room or hot yoga speeds development during the first 24 hours, so plan around it. Clients often notice that chlorine and salt water take color down sooner, so save the long swim for after the color has settled.

Booking
How do I book, and can I get a same-day tan?
Book online any time for an appointment more than 12 hours away. For a same-day tan, call or text (831) 479-8266.
What about weddings?
Come for a trial any time at least two weeks before the wedding, so it has time to fade fully, and book the final tan two to three days before, never the night before. The bridal planner works out your dates, and why three days before works explains the timing.
