Tailored Tans for Mature Skin: Achieving a Rested and Collected Look
How a spray tan is adjusted for mature skin: a lighter depth, steady hydration and the right undertone for a rested, natural look.

Nobody who books a spray tan after forty needs to be talked into wanting one, and nobody I work with is trying to look twenty-five. What they ask for is color that makes them look rested, even and put together, which is a much more specific request than a darker tan.
What changes with age
Skin renews itself more slowly as we age and tends to run drier, and both matter to a tan, because the color sits in the outermost layer of skin and fades as that layer renews. A drier surface shows unevenness more readily, so the approach shifts in two ways: a lighter depth and steadier moisturizing.

A lighter depth, chosen in the room
I decide depth by looking at your skin in the studio light and talking it through with you. For many mature clients the most flattering choice is a step lighter than they first picture, because even tone softens the look of discoloration and leaves you looking like yourself on a very good day. It is your call, and you can change your mind at the appointment.
Bronze Organics: a soft golden brown with a clean botanical formula.
Unity NR: a neutral deep-brown bronzer that suits any undertone.
Rapid Development: a cooler, even color that rinses at 2, 4 or 6 hours depending on depth.
Tell me what is in your skincare routine. Nobody has to stop anything on their own; I plan around it.

Hydration does most of the work
Dehydration shows on a spray tan immediately. The tan sits in the outer layers of skin, and when those layers dry out they lift and expose the ones beneath, which produces a crackly look. That is my explanation from nineteen years of practice rather than a clinical claim, and it is why water and moisturizer matter more to mature skin than any product choice I make.
My own skin taught me the rest. When I started, I did not exfoliate and had dry skin; now I use a glove constantly and no longer have dry skin unless I am dehydrated. A gentle glove in the shower every day, including the day of your appointment, followed by a moisturizer you actually use, is the strongest preparation there is. Normalize Treatment is a pre-tan elixir built around skin's slightly acidic pH, and the Extend Hydrating Serum keeps color fading gradually afterward.
If you use retinoids or prescription skincare, mention it, and your doctor has the final word on anything prescribed.

Keeping it
Moisturize daily, since hydrated skin fades more evenly.
Wash gently with a cleanser like PHydra-Luxe that does not strip color.
Wait for your rinse time, which I give you at the appointment, and keep to water only for the first rinse.
The full routine is in the aftercare guide, and the Bronze Protocol's page for mature skin goes deeper on why renewal slows and what that means for color.
